Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jimmy Kimmel has served up a seventh helping of his always popular 'Celebrities Read Mean Tweets' segment, featuring more damning criticisms including David Blaine who is told he 'looks like his voice is putting his face to sleep'.

Members of the Ocean's Eleven cast including Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia and Don Cheadle all open themselves up to derision, along with Emma Stone who is told she 'looks like she smells like cat p*ss' and McConaughey who is bluntly branded a 'd*ck turd'.

Kit Harrington finds his Game of Thrones casting questioned meanwhile, reading the tweet: "Kit Harrington is a pretty terrible Jon Snow- in the show he just seems like a big bitch with a stupid look on his face #badcasting".

Sofia Vergara faces a rather vulgar assessment of her accent, while Gary Oldman is in total agreement with his Twitter user about his "f*cking annoying as sh*t" accents.

Previous batches of the segment saw Matt Damon, Benedict Cubmerbatch and Cate Blanchett face up to internet trolls.
