Chris Evans, who has played Captain America since 2011, has shared some sad news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor was last seen as the superhero in 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which saw his story draw to an emotional conclusion.

Despite many reports indicating that the actor could return in some form in a future film or TV show, Evans has poured water on this idea.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday 29 May, Evans said: “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way.”

Evans’ words will come as a relief to Endgame writers Chrstopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who believe that his return would ruin the effect of the finished film.

The fallout of his departure will be explored in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first of many planned Marvel spin-off shows to be premiered exclusively on Disney+.

Avengers writer Markus was recently criticised for his “inaccurate” explanation of why a Captain America plot twist could only happen in Avengers: Endgame.
