Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Mark Ruffalo has been sharing life advice with the same fan since 2014 – and checked in with her most recently on Friday.
The actor and the fan’s ongoing conversation came to light after Ruffalo’s most recent answer went viral.
The fan got in touch with Ruffalo in July 2014, asking him he had any advice to give people who don’t feel self-confident.
“Got to love yourself,” Ruffalo said at the time. When the fan told him she didn’t find that easy, he added: ”I know it’s not easy but it’s where you must start. Start in your heart. The love is already there.”
In 2017, the fan sent Ruffalo another update thanking him for his support.
“It’s been three years but your advice still inspire me,” she wrote. “This is me now and I feel way more confident. Thank you Mark.”
On that occasion too, Ruffalo replied, writing back: “Looking good! Happy to hear it’s going well. Best.”
Last month, the fan posted screenshots from her past exchanges with the actor and shared a new update.
“Even though I’m having a hard time, I’m still trying to follow your advice to love myself. Thank you again Mark,” she wrote.
On Friday, the actor retweeted her message, adding: “Look at you! It sounds so easy to say ‘love yourself’ but like anything worth a damn in life it takes practice, patience, and your daily attention.
