From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mark Hamill has spoken about his love of teasing Star Wars fans online.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hamill spoke about his role on History channel drama Knightfall, which is currently in its second season.

The show focuses on the rise and fall of the Knights Templar, as orchestrated by King Philip IV of France, with Hamill in the role of Master Talus, a veteran member of its ranks.

“You know what is so great, is that when you get into all that gear and look in the mirror, Mark Hamill is gone,” the actor said, describing his character as “highly unlikable, a latter-day drill sergeant and he’s just brutal.”

He added: “Eventually Star Wars is going to go away. [Star Wars: Episode IX] comes out in December so I only have eight months of trolling left. I love to tease the fans online. It drives them crazy. I’m sure Disney is not happy about it, but what are they gonna do, fire me? It’s too late.”

“How can you not have fun with it though? People say what was it like doing those movies, and we just laughed all day long,” Hamill said of his time on the films.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on 19 December, while Knightfall continues on Mondays at 10pm on the History channel.
