From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In it, he plays Scott, an aspiring tattoo artist who is drifting through life after his firefighter father dies in the line of duty.
Marisa Tomei and comedian Bill Burr also star as Scott’s mother and her potential suitor, respectively.
In a behind-the-scenes clip debuting exclusively in The Independent, Davidson can be seen discussing the project, alongside his co-stars and the film’s directer, renowned comedy producer Judd Apatow.
“Pete is someone that people are very interested in,” says Apatow in the clip.
“The King of Staten Island is an opportunity for Pete to tell you about himself, and to tell you about his feelings and his journey.”
Davidson recently spoke to CBS Sunday Morning about the role, which he hoped would be a “cleansing” experience for him, following his own struggles with mental health.
The King of Staten Island will be available to Rent at Home from 12 June from digital partners such as Sky Store, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play and other digital retailers.
