The sight of Bryce Dallas Howard running for her life in a sky-high pair of heels sparked a feminist outcry when Jurassic World hit cinemas. Fortunately, she will be spared the terribly inappropriate footwear in the sequel.

The US actress has revealed that while she was pleased audience’s acknowledged how difficult it to trek through a dinosaur-ridden jungle in heels, she never expected her character’s sartorial choices to ignite so much controversy.

“Of course it’s illogical for [park operations manager Claire] to be in heels in the jungle, she never intended to go in the jungle. If she was in flats, that would be a cheat: ‘Oh, she managed to get her hands on some flats!’” she told Collider.

“Claire never thought that she was going to end up traipsing through the jungle, let alone outrunning a T-Rex! She worked in an office and that’s how she dressed. She’s a woman who could probably run a marathon in heels, and would, and would prefer it.”

Director Colin Trevorrow is returning for the follow-up and told Dallas Howard that the heels would have to go, much to her delight.

“The way that Colin told me that the sequel was happening and I was going to be in it, he texted me: “#NoHeels2018” and I was like, ‘Yeah boy’,” she said. “She needs to be ready to run, potentially.”

Dallas Howard admitted in June that it had been her idea to keep wearing the heels in the first film. “I was kind of against the idea of wearing them at the beginning, but then one day while looking at the terrain prior to a shoot, I just looked at Colin and said, ‘I think I’ll keep the shoes on’,” she told Variety.

Fans can look forward to seeing Claire in some seriously hefty boots when Jurassic World 2 reaches cinemas on 22 June 2018.
