Rowan Atkinson is returning as bumbling spy Johnny English in a third film to be released in 2018.

Johnny English 3 will be the next film in the spoof series following 2011 sequel Johnny English Reborn which co-starred Dominic West, Gillian Anderson and Rosamund Pike.

The character, who made his big screen debut in 2003, first appeared in advertisements for Barclay Card.

A full cast is yet to be confirmed, although pre-production has begun.

007 spoof Johnny English was written by Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade who wrote films including Skyfall and Spectre). The film starred Blackadder actor Atkinson alongside Ben Miller, Natalie Imbruglia and John Malkovich who played the villainous Pascal Sauvage. Both Johnny English and Johnny English Reborn grossed $160 million (£123m) at the global box office.

The third film will be released October 2018.
