Your support makes all the difference.Star Wars actor John Boyega has clarified his recent comments of The Last Jedi after fans assumed he was criticising his co-star Kelly Marie Tran.
In the film, Finn is partnered with Rose Tico, a character who received such backlash online that Tran was forced to suspend her Twitter account.
Boyega – when speaking about dealing with negative fandom on social media – told Variety that “for those who are not mentally strong, you are weak to believe in every single thing that you read.”
He previously told Hypebeast he disliked the fact that he was separated from the main group in the film, including Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe (Oscar Isaac), which left fans believing his comments were referencing Tran.
Boyega denied this on Twitter, writing: “In no way was I referring to Kelly when I made my comments although the interviewer mentioned her given the topic.
“I was really speaking from my own perspective throughout this franchise. Sometimes I’ve felt strong and sometimes I’ve felt weak. Badly worded though. I apologise.”
Boyega, who returns as Finn in new JJ Abrams film The Rise of Skywalker, previously revealed he was dissatisfied with his story arc in Rian Johnson’s 2017 sequel.
One person who assumed Boyega was criticising Tran, wrote on Tiwtter: “Can someone please come forward and clarify his comments?....cause if this is about KMT, then this is... really terrible.”
