Joaquin Phoenix says he might be interested in making a Joker sequel

Joaquin Phoenix has said he would consider returning as the Joker in another movie featuring the character.

The actor discussed this possibility in an interview on Popcorn with Peter Travers, after being asked if the DC villain had been his dream role.

He answered negatively but recanted somewhat, adding: “I wouldn’t have thought of this as my dream role but now, honestly, I can’t stop thinking about it.

“I talked to [director Todd Phillips] a lot about what else we might be able to do, in general, just working together, but also specifically, if there’s something else we can do with Joker that might be interesting.”

Phillips himself has said that he would be willing to work on a Joker sequel if Phoenix is willing to reprise the role.

Joker opened on Friday in cinemas and has broken the US box office record for October openings, which could create favourable conditions for a possible sequel.

The film, however, has become a topic of controversy over its portrayal of violence.
