From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first trailer for the spin-off “sequel” to Coen brothers classic The Big Lebowski has arrived.

John Turturro has brought back his character Jesus Quintana for new comedy The Jesus Rolls, which begins with him getting out of prison after being framed as a paedophile.

The film also stars Audrey Tautou, Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, Jon Hamm, Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson and, in what is being described as the film’s zaniest performance, Christopher Walken.

Set to be released later this year, it follows a trio of misfits whose sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story, as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds.

When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.

The Jesus Rolls – inspired by Bertrand Blier’s 1974 French film of the same name – has been approved by Joel and Ethan Coen.

After years of reports about the film, Turturro told The Independent last year that he had completed an edit he’s happy with – and first unveiled the final product at the 2019 Rome Film Festival.

No other Big Lebowski characters are expected to show up in the film, despite Jeff Bridges admitting he’d be up for playing “a little cameo” as The Dude in the future.

The Jesus Rolls will be released in cinemas in the UK on 20 March. It'll be available on demand from 23 March.
