Jack Black momentarily forgot he starred in a Christmas movie while revealing his favourite holiday film.

In a video interview shared by Variety on Monday, the actor was asked about his favourite movie to watch over the holidays.

But rather than naming The Holiday, which he starred in alongside Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, Black named a different holiday classic as his favourite.

“My favourite holiday film – you know what, it’s got to be Elf,” he says in the video. “Jon Favreau and Will Ferrell just knock it out of the park.”

“I appreciate the humility,” the interviewer says in response. “You could have said your own movie.”

Black appears visibly confused as he asks: “Do I have a Christmas movie? Which one is mine?” before remembering. “Oh, The Holiday! Obviously, The Holiday!”

“Nancy Meyers – genius,” he added.

On social media, the 50-year-old’s flub has people amused.

“And this is why Jack Black is a national treasure,” one person tweeted.

Meyers previously revealed that she wrote the role of Miles, a music producer who plays Winslet’s love interest in the 2006 film, with Black in mind.

“I saw School Of Rock and thought he was the cutest guy and fell in love with him,” she told IndieLondon in 2006. “So Jack came over to my house, I made him some pasta, we sat in my kitchen and I told him the idea.

“When I asked him if he’d ever be in a movie like this, he replied: ‘Nancy, have you seen my work?’ But I assured him that I had and told him that I thought he was fabulous and that he’d be in a movie with Kate Winslet. He just said ‘yeah.’”
