'It was a total waste of an afternoon'
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A film and television student, Ryan Daly, 20, summarised: "It was a complete load of rubbish.
"The adverts for the film made it look very funny but I think that was just clever editing," he said. "The adverts were funnier than the film. It didn't make me laugh at all.
"There were a couple of slightly amusing one-liners but that is all.''
A fellow student, Rhuari Livingston, 19, from Glasgow complained: "Johnny Vegas is usually very funny but I don't think this film will do his career much good. It was a complete turkey, a total waste of an afternoon."
He added: "I wouldn't recommend it to anybody, it just wasn't funny."
However, the film did find a fan in Euan McLaren, 18, from Glasgow, who saw it by mistake. The student had gone to the cinema to see Scary Movie 3 but had walked into Sex Lives of the Potato Men instead.
"It was a very good laugh and I really enjoyed it," he said. "I hadn't really wanted to see it but I am glad I did."
