Now that the country is in lockdown, you're probably spending hours trying to pick which film to watch out of the hundreds available to you.

Well, cinephiles rejoice – The Independent has launched a new film club, which will provide you with all the help you need.

How does it work, we hear you ask? Every Monday at 1pm, one of our writers will pick a selection of four films and you'll be able to cast your vote for the one you'd most like to watch over at @IndyFilm.

The winning choice will be announced the following day on The Independent film section’s Twitter account, as well as here on the website.

First up, our film critic Clarisse Loughrey will be writing about Hal Ashby’s Harold and Maude after 32.2 per cent voted to watch it.

The other films in contention were The Company of Wolves, horror film Ring and Daisies, which featured on our list of hidden gems to stream while self-isolating.

Harold and Maude is the 1971 cult classic about a young man, played by Bud Cort, whose obsession with death leads to a unique friendship with an elderly woman (Ruth Gordon) after they meet at a funeral.

The film is available to rent on Amazon, Google Play and YouTube for £2.49 and Clarisse will be sharing her views about the film in an article posted on Sunday (29 March) – but for this to work, we need your thoughts too!
