From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Constance Wu has denied claims that she was a diva on the set of her new movie, Hustlers, following reports that her representatives contacted multiple media outlets to ensure she had top billing in press coverage about the film.

The Crazy Rich Asians actor, who features in the stripper heist film alongside Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and Lizzo, reportedly demanded to be named first in articles as the film’s biggest star.

Page Six’s report also claimed that during filming, Wu was described as a “difficult diva” due to her demands, and quoted a source saying the actor is a “piece of work” and that she treated “people badly” on set.

Wu has since come out to deny the claims, saying: “We made this film with an incredible spirit of sisterhood and love. Any reports otherwise have felt like an age-old attempt to pit us against each other and knock us down when, in truth, we had the best time making this!"

She told ET: “We won’t be knocked down. We will continue to share and celebrate this story together, as sisters. Thank you to all the fans for believing in us and supporting this film.”

This is not the first time Wu has been accused of being a diva. In May, she sent an expletive-ridden tweet after her ABC show Fresh off the Boat was renewed. She later explained her outburst, saying she was “upset” because the show’s renewal meant she had to “give up another project I was really passionate about”.

Hustlers will be released in UK cinemas on 13 September 2019.
