According to Deadline, company CEO Bob Iger announced that the Disney+ streaming service will eventually include reboots of four franchises from its recently acquired Fox library, citing Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen.
The original Home Alone, which was released in 1990, starred Macaulay Culkin as 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, who finds himself left behind when his family mistakenly leave for a trip to Paris without him.
Iger said the films would be “reimagined” for a new generation but did not clarify what forms the reboots would take or when they would go into production.
Disney previously announced that one of its own classics, Lady and the Tramp, would get a live-action/CGI remake for its streaming service, starring Tessa Thompson as the voice of Lady and Justin Theroux as Tramp.
Iger said Disney was “focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our DTC platforms [Disney+ and Hulu]”, in addition to the Avatar, Planet of the Apes, X-Men and Deadpool franchises.
By the end of the first year of launch, Disney+ overall will house more than 7,500 episodes of TV and 400 movies.
