Harry Potter fans are trying to free Dobby by leaving socks on the Warner Bros Studio Tour
Dobby's ultimate master JK Rowling is clearly impressed with the campaign's efforts

Every Harry Potter fan knows that Dobby deserves to be free, so if you want to help spring him from his glass cage at Warner Bros Studios, it’s time to grab your socks and head to London.
Supporters of the brave and totally adorable House Elf from JK Rowling’s magical books have been draping their (hopefully clean) offerings over the Dobby model’s placard and sharing photos of their good deeds on social media.
House elves can only be freed when given clothes by their masters. Dobby’s favourite item of clothing is the sock after Harry freed him by conning Lucius Malfoy into throwing him one, which explains the growing number by his exhibition on the tour.
One of many unfortunate obstacles in the #FreeDobby campaign is that the popular character is, erm, dead. So dead, in fact, that his eyes are closed and he is still wearing the same bloodied smock from his tragic final scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Just in case you’ve somehow forgotten this traumatic moment, loyal Dobby was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange while apparating Harry and Griphook to the safety of Shell Cottage. He died a martyr, and visitors are determined to see him liberated. So too is Rowling, who retweeted the above picture of the gifted socks.
Harry does carve ‘Here lies Dobby, a free elf’ on his grave after all.
