From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed her least favourite performance of her career.

The actor was playing a game with her assistant, Kevin Keating, for Netflix, challenging him as to how well he really knows her.

When Paltrow asked Keating if he knew which of her performances she liked the least, he said "Shallow Hal?" in reference to the 2001 film that sees Paltrow where a fat suit.

Paltrow nodded, confirming: "Exactly."

"I'm not sure who told you to do that one, but it wasn't me,” said Keating. “I wasn't there working for you. Not around for that."

To which Paltrow said: "That was before your time! See what happened? Disaster."

Shallow Hal stars Jack Black as Hal, a superficial man who falls in love with Paltrow’s Rosemarie after he is hypnotised into seeing people's inner beauty reflected in their physical appearance.

Paltrow spoke about the “disturbing” experience of wearing a fat suit on set in 2001. "The first day I tried it on, I was in the Tribeca Grand and I walked through the lobby," she told W magazine.

"It was so sad; it was so disturbing. No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese. I was wearing this black shirt with big snowmen on it. For some reason, the... clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive."

The film was criticised at the time for discriminating and mocking overweight people.

Allen Steadham of the Size Acceptance Association said: ''The Farrelly brothers went out of their way not to have this movie be your standard fat-joke situation. But at the same time, they managed to exploit every fat-person stereotype to the extreme.

“Our members are kind of bowled over by the audacity, because the movie manages to make all the fat jokes, but gets this escape route at the end, the positive spin.''

When asked what her favourite performance was, Keating correctly guessed it was her duet with CeeLo Green at the 2011 Grammys.
