From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Repeating the words "I am Groot" in various intonations is a particularly tough gig for any actor.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's director James Gunn decided to help Vin Diesel out by providing a special version of the script to the Groot actor; one in which the character's endless "I am Groot" lines were actually translated into English, revealing the meanings only Rocket Raccoon can usually interpret.

Gunn posted an image of the front page of the ultra-top-secret "Groot version" to his Facebook; writing, "This is the special Groot version of the script that only Vin Diesel and I have, where every Groot line is printed in English instead of Groot, so Vin will know what the various 'I am Groot''s mean. I love putting this thing together."

More secrecy to add to Marvel's closely-guarded upcoming film slate; though the studio took the rather surprising decision to reveal the highly-anticipated identity of Star-Lord's father at this year's Comic-Con, as a way to avoid fan disappointment and focus hype around the film itself.

There have also been a few morsels of information slipping online: from a piece of concept art showing the Guardians taking on a dog-like Kraken creature, to Elizabeth Debicki revealing details of her character Ayesha.

Gunn has, however, insisted the first trailer for the film shown at Comic-Con won't be turning up any time soon; as the footage shown featured unifinished effects the director isn't happy with releasing to the general public.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits UK cinemas 31 July, 2017.
