From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has confirmed in a Facebook video with lead actor Chris Pratt that filming has wrapped on the sequel.

“We, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, are coming to San Diego Comic-Con this year,” he told fans. “I’m going to be there, Chris Pratt is going to be there, a bunch of the gang is going to be there and we’re going to show you guys something pretty cool.”

That ‘something pretty cool’ will almost certainly be a first teaser trailer - the convention being held between 21 and 24 July.

Marvel as largely absent at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but, in addition to Gunn, Scott Derrickson is expected to be there, which means a better look at and more info on the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Doctor Strange.

Gunn told Collider of the GOTG sequel: "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters."

Protagonist Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) father was referenced in the first film, and it sounds like he’ll be central to the second.

“We get to learn a lot more about fathers in the second movie, [So] we focus a lot on that,” Gunn added.

Kurt Russell is thought to be playing Peter’s dad, his performance having moved the cast and crew to tears during filming.
