Another Ricky Gervais-hosted Golden Globes ceremony, another round of toe-curling jokes designed to offend the cream of Hollywood’s crop.
Or perhaps not. Maybe in an attempt to avoid similar controversy to that which the comedian has courted in the past, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has ordered the comedian to be on better behaviour for this year’s opening monologue.
Will he listen? That remains to be seen – although much of the promotion of this year’s ceremony has been centred on the fact this will be Gervais’ fifth and final time as host, so he won’t exactly be looking to go out with a whimper.
Gervais isn’t the only host to have cut down Hollywood’s elite with some shocking one liners, though. Both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did so not too long ago – for three consecutive years, no less – and Seth Meyers had the tough task of hosting the year after the news of Harvey Weinstein’s harassment allegations came to light.
Ahead of this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, we run through some of the most shocking jokes, ranging from one-liners about Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and several about Mel Gibson.
