From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Both Arquette and King starred in Hulu’s The Act and earned Golden Globe nods for their performances in the series. King was nominated for her lead performance while Arquette won for best actress in a supporting role.
After the ceremony on Sunday (5 January), the actors celebrated at the InStyle & Warner Bros after-party, where the accident involving the award occurred.
According to Variety, they were posing in an elevator photo booth when Arquette began singing and waving around her Golden Globe award, inadvertently hitting King in the forehead.
“Patricia Arquette accidentally hit me in the head with her Golden Globe,” wrote King on Twitter. That sentence will give me bragging rights for the rest of my life.”
Arquette replied to the tweet with an apology, posting: “What happens in the elevator stays in the elevator! No, seriously. I’m so sorry sweetest one!”
