From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The big winners of tonight's Golden Globes movie gongs are...Selma and Into the Woods - according to an official website glitch that is.

The Martin Luther King biopic and Disney musical were revealed on the awards site on Friday as victors in the best motion picture - drama and best motion picture - musical or comedy categories respectively.

Both films are nominated for prizes at the star-studded Los Angeles ceremony.

However, despite eagle-eyed viewers spotting the technical error and setting social media alight, the company behind the website soon issued a statement putting the record straight.

"While testing the official website of the Golden Globe Awards for Sunday's ceremony, Bluefin inadvertently took the test live," a spokesperson told Deadline.com.

"We randomly selected two film titles with no knowledge of the category winners. We are solely responsible for the error."

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning to host the Golden Globes for the third and final time ahead of the Oscars next month.

British actors David Oyelowo, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are competing for the best actor award while Birdman leads the nominations with seven nods.
