From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Post-credits scenes have become the norm with Hollywood blockbusters – but not with Godzilla vs Kong.

Those who have already sat through the end credits of the new film, which bypassed a theatrical release and is now available to stream at home, might have been confused to discover it didn’t have one.

Previous instalments in the franchise, including Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, set up future outings with these post-credits stings.

Interestingly, Godzilla vs Kong was always going to have one; director Adam Wingard even shot it with the intention of placing it after the credits.

So, what actually happened to the scene in question?

According to Wingard, the scene was placed in the finished film instead.

“We actually did shoot a post-credits scene but we ended up using it in the movie, because we shot it while we were making the film and we realised we needed a scene at the end of the movie,” he told Collider.

“We had this footage, and we were like ‘wait a minute, if we actually just change this thing about this footage we originally shot for a post-credit thing, we can actually use it in the movie.’ And it’s really effective.

“We kind of just sacrificed our post-credits scene.”

So, it turns out you’ve already seen the post-credits scene without realising it!

Godzilla vs Kong is available to stream at home now. Cinemas will be reopening in the UK and Scotland from 17 May – find all the details here.
