From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Love or loathe the Ghostbusters reboot, we can probably all agree on one thing: it would be nice if Hollywood focused on original ideas instead of recycling old ones.
Well, we can count out director Paul Feig resurrecting more classic films at least.
Asked when he would even consider reimagining another classic film property, he told The Huffington Post: “No, no, no. No, I will not,” drawing attention to the fact that most of his filmography is original material.
“This one was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting,” he added.
Feig has probably had more than his fill of remakes after Ghostbusters, which saw anger and support in equal measure, all amounting to a huge furore you probably wouldn’t be keen to five back into.
He’s upbeat about the response though, saying: “It’s such a validation for the years of false controversy.”
A new project we learned last week that he’s working on next sounds pretty intriguing, centring on a load of supermodels doing coke in the Chilean mountains.
