From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A new trailer for Neil Armstrong biopic First Man starring Ryan Gosling has rocketed in.

Whiplash director Damien Chazelle's new “stirring” film will guide audiences through the astronaut's tumultuous journey into space on the Apollo 11 space flight.

Gosling's lead performance is already being touted for awards success with The Crown star Claire Foy co-starring as his wife Janet Shearon who'll take centre stage in the scenes set on Earth.

“This isn’t just another trip, Neil,” she can be seen telling her husband at one stage in the trailer. “You’re not just going to work.”

The film has earned rave reviews at both Venice and Toronto's film festivals. First Man is being dubbed a Right Stuff-style marvel that will likely see Whiplash director Chazelle - who became the youngest person to ever win Best Director at the Oscars in 2017 - and Gosling earn further acclaim following 2017 musical La La Land.

First Man also stars Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler and Pablo Schreiber and will be released in the UK on 12 October.
