Could the trailer's editors be playing tricks on the audience?

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan both return as lead characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey with other returning cast members including Marcia Gay Harden, Rita Ora, Jennifer Ehle and Luke Grimes.
Surprisingly, the trailer, which features the song "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" by Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift, features a gun accompanied by a loud bang. Whether it's trickery from the trailer's editors remains to be seen although this plot twist would surprise book readers as no such moment occurs in the book.
Fifty Shades of Grey's follow-up will also see Kim Basinger, Bella Heathcote and Supergirl's Superman Tyler Hoechlin (Everybody Want Some!!) join the cast.
Fifty Shades Darker will be released on 10 February, two years after the first adaptation which became the fastest-selling 18-certificate film of all time.
The third and final film Fifty Shades Freed will be released in 2018.
