From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Helen Mirren's role in the eighth film in the Fast & Furious franchise has finally been revealed.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, it was confirmed that the British actor will play the matriarch of the Shaw family, the members of which include Owen (Luke Evans) and Deckard (Jason Statham).

It was Evans who let the news slip during an interview for Disney's live-action reboot of Beauty and the Beast. His character Owen was last seen in a coma in Fast & Furious 6 which was released in 2013.

New Fast and Furious 8 trailer shown during Super Bowl

Universal has remained coy when pressed to comment on the actor's words.

Production began on Fast & Furious 8 - the first of a final trilogy - this summer with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Tyrese Gibson all returning for what is most likely going to be more of the entertaining same. New additions, as well as Mirren, include Charlize Theron and Scott Eastwood.

Elsewhere, Statham is expected to reprise his role as Deckard.

A brand new teaser for the film, which is brilliantly titled The Fate of the Furious in the US, was unveiled during this year's Super Bowl.
