Ellen Barkin has claimed that one of her “acting heroes” tried to molest her in her 20s.

The Diner actor made the claim during a Twitter discussion about Marilyn Manson, who has been accused of abuse by several women. Manson has denied the allegations.

“When I was about 25 and just starting my career I met one of my acting heroes at a small dinner party,” Barkin wrote. “He tried to molest me. I was heartbroken. I get it.”

She continued: “My point being I believed this towering actor would be as great as his art. I walked home crying on that New Year’s Eve.”

Barkin finished the tweets with the hashtag “#FallenIdols”.

Barkin had previously tweeted about the Manson fans who are defending him against allegations made by the actor Evan Rachel Wood and several other women.

Wood alleged that Manson had groomed and abused her. In response to Wood’s allegations, and those of other women, Manson called the claims “horrible distortions of reality”.

“My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners,” the rock star added. “Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Barkin, whose credits include Sea of Love and The Big Easy, has emerged as a leading voice against Hollywood misogyny and sexual abuse in recent years.
