Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The cast of Elf is set to reunite for a livestream event featuring original cast members Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, Bob Newhart, and more.
Organised by the Democratic Party of Georgia and benefiting the state's Senate runoff elections, the reunion will be hosted by Emmy-winning comedian Ashley Nicole Black.
"I'm excited to bring Buddy back to the small screen to benefit the critical Senate runoff elections in Georgia," Will Ferrell said of the entry-by-donation event. "We need new leadership in the US Senate, and I'm hoping that Buddy and the rest of the Elf cast, can play a small role in delivering that change."
Other guests set to appear include Ed Asner, Mary Steenburgen, Amy Sedaris, Andy Richter, Kyle Gass, Danny Woodburn, Pod Save America host Jon Favreau (not the film’s director of the same name), John Lithgow, Ed Helms, Busy Phillips, and Matt Walsh.
"If I were any more excited to be in the #ElfForGeorgia reunion I might explode into a burst of snowflakes," wrote Deschanel, who memorably played Jovie in the 2003 holiday film, on Twitter. "Join me, Will Ferrell, and many other amazing people from the original cast along with some special guests for our live reading! All donations go to support GA dems."
"This holiday season, Georgia Democrats know that the best way to spread holiday cheer will be voting loud for all to hear," Jason Esteves, Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Georgia, said. "The joy, laughter, and good tidings from this incredible film will mobilize new volunteers and raise funds to send Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to the US Senate."
The livestream is set for 4 pm ET on 13 December. Those who wish to watch can gain access by giving a donation of any amount or signing up for a volunteer shift. All proceeds will be put toward electing Ossoff and Warnock.
Ferrell has campaigned for Georgia Democrats before, going door-to-door to support Stacey Abrams for governor in 2018.
