From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference. The reviews of Dunkirk - the latest film from director Christopher Nolan - have flooded in overnight with many praising the intense WWII thriller as his masterpiece.
Nolan is no stranger to acclaim having earned positive reviews continually from his first hit, 200's neo-noir gem Memento, right through to sci-fi opus Interstellar in 2014.
His credits in between, including magician drama The Prestige, the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception - as well as the low-budgeted debut Following (1999) - are all revered as good films (despite, admittedly, the large sector of individuals who dislike Inception).
Going by the early Dunkirk consensus, Nolan hasn't simply done it again but has outdone himself with: after 40 reviews, the film has a staggering Rotten Tomatoes score of 98% - his highest yet.
You can see the full list, not including Nolan's shorts, below.
Following - 78%
Memento - 92%
Insomnia - 92%
Batman Begins - 84%
The Prestige - 76%
The Dark Knight - 94%
Inception - 86%
The Dark Knight Rises - 87%
Interstellar - 71%
Now, this could be liable to change as more reviews come in, but it's hard to see it dipping below the filmmaker's second placed film, The Dark Knight (2008).
Whichever way you fall down on the work of Christopher Nolan, there's no denying he's one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. Many may be wondering what the filmmaker will do next (a Bond film is a strong possibility), for now, book yourself into the cinema to see what many are touting to be one of the most intense depictions of war ever seen on screen.
