Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. For anyone who delved into the internet's current obsession with Netflix's Stranger Things, they will have felt those faint, reverberating echoes of Cliff Martinez's groundbreaking score for 2011's Drive in the show's massively acclaimed music.
Ever since Nicolas Winding Refn's neon-dripped thriller hit screens, cinema's love affair with the rebirth of '80s synth has only intensified over the years; Disasterpeace's anxiety-wrecked soundtrack to breakout horror It Follows marking another peak in the trend. Martinez himself has continued working alongside Refn, contributing equally stunning scores to both Only God Forgives and this year's Neon Demon.
We're coming now to the fifth anniversary of Drive's theatrical release; with Invada and Lake Shore Records concocting an extra special treat for fans, releasing the soundtrack on a special edition vinyl to hit stores this fall (via Indiewire).
Pre-orders will commence on 1 September from Invada, with the LP becoming available in record stores worldwide from 30 September to 31 December. Invada has stated, "From January 1, 2017 this anniversary variant will be deleted and the original version will be made available again."
The limited-edition release will include new liner notes contributed both by Refn and Martinez; as well as some stunning new artwork, which you can check out below.
It's a must-have treat for any hardcore Drive fan, and a sublime way to celebrate the anniversary of a truly iconic moment in cinematic music.
