Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It's been a relatively strong year for horror what with low-key chiller The Witch creeping its way into the mainstream, the unprecedented US success of Lights Out and the announcement that The Woods is, in fact, a secret Blair Witch sequel.

The Red Band trailer for new film Don't Breathe is about to strengthen that argument.

Ironically, this film is from Fede Alvarez, the director of 2013's pointless Evil Dead remake - we say 'ironically' because Don't Breathe looks like it could be one of the most original horrors in quite some time.

The plot follows a group of friends who, assuming they'll get away with the perfect robbery, break into the home of a wealthy blind man. It soon emerges they picked the wrong wealthy blind man to mess with - and a single watch of the below clip will show you why.

Stephen Lang (Avatar) takes on the role of the fearsome Blind Man while the group of law-breakers are played by Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps) and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows).

Don't Breathe will be released in the UK on 9 September.
