With the first film having celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, a sixth film is gearing up for production, with star Bruce Willis previously revealing that a script has already been completed for the project.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed to Empire magazine that the film will be titled McClane, adding: "You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, McCLANE. We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before.”
With Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman currently attached, the film will act as a parallel prequel/sequel, flashing back and forth between a young McClane and his present self, as the everyman cop investigates a case related to his rookie years.
Di Bonaventura also confirmed that the film will spend as much time with Willis' McClane as it will with his younger incarnation. "I don’t know how you do Die Hard without Bruce,” he said. “The idea that he’s not very significant in this movie is not accurate at all. We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.”
The role of the younger McClane has yet to be cast, though Wiseman previously said of the decision: "The right casting for this role is crucial. Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill."
