Amy Adams has been cast in an upcoming film adaptation of the famed Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.

According to Deadline, Adams will portray Cynthia Murphy, the mother of characters Connor and Zoe Murphy.

In Dear Evan Hansen, Connor’s death by suicide precipitates a series of events, most notably in the life of the titular Evan Hansen, a teenager who has social anxiety.

The musical opened on Broadway in 2016 and has won six Tonys.

One of those went to Ben Platt, who took Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Evan in the original Broadway production

Platt is expected to reprise the role in the movie version.

Kaitlyn Dever, who recently played the lead role in Netflix’s acclaimed series Unbelievable, has been cast as Zoe.

Amandla Stenberg is set to portray Alana, one of Evan’s classmates.
