Daniel Kaluuya responds to Oscars journalist who mistook him for Leslie Odom Jr

Kaluuya won Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar for his portrayal of Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah

Daniel Kaluuya had an uncomfortable moment in the Oscars press room when a journalist mistook him for fellow nominee Leslie Odom Jr.

“I was wondering what it meant for you to be directed by Regina [King, and] what this means for you at this time, with the world in the state that it's in?” asked an unnamed journalist in the 93rd Academy Awards press room.

“Uh, say that question again please?” asked Kaluuya, not acknowledging the journalist’s error.

Odom Jr was nominated twice for his contributions to One Night in Miami, directed by King. He also got a nod for Best Original Song for “Speak Now”.

Kaluuya, meanwhile, won Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar for his portrayal of Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah.

The journalist repeated her question but left out King’s name.

“It's amazing to have this honor and to be appreciated in this way,” Kaluuya said, appearing ready to move on.

Kaluuya also addressed the hilarious comment he made about his parents having sex during his acceptance speech.

At the end of his speech, Kaluuya spoke about how great it is to be alive, stating: “My mum and my dad... they had sex – and now I’m here!”

When asked about the comment, he said: “Is that gonna live on? I think that’s pretty obvious that all of our parents had sex. What’s going on?”

He added: “It just came out of my mouth. My mum’s probably going to text me some stuff about that, but here we are.”
