The son of the late Capote actor, who died in 2014, will appear alongside Bradley Cooper and Benny Safdie in Anderson’s forthcoming project, which is set in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hoffman, 17, will play a child actor in the currently untitled film from the Inherent Vice director.
Also joining the ensemble cast is Alana Haim, the youngest band member and sister of rock group Haim.
Anderson has collaborated with the “Summer Girl” band on eight music videos over the last three years, including for four tracks from their recent album Women in Music Pt. III.
Celebrating the news, Este Haim tweeted: “DANIELLE AND I ARE SO PROUD OF ALANA.”
The film is the latest of Anderson’s to be set in the San Fernando Valley, following on from Boogie Nights (1997) and Magnolia (1999).
The director’s most recent film, 2017’s Phantom Thread, was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, while earning acting nominations for Daniel Day-Lewis and Lesley Manville.
