Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. With the monumental success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt went from just being ‘Andy on Parks and Recreation’ to Hollywood superstar, no longer just the funny guy but a leading hero.
Of course, it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t landed the role of Star-Lord (Who?) in Marvel’s intergalactic film.
With footage from the actor’s audition (alongside Dave Bautista’s Drax) having appeared online, it’s easy to see why James Gunn gave him the role. Watch below, thanks to Yahoo! Movies.

The two performers act out a scene similar to one in the film yet with subtle differences.
Near the beginning of Guardians, before the team have assembled, the gang are all in prison, with Drax hoping to kill Gamora.
However, Pratt’s character intervenes, persuading the ever-literal grey hero not to end her life and instead to work together to get Thanos.
In the audition tape, however, the two characters are seen speaking in calm whispers rather than the anxious tones.
Of course, the audition would have happened at an early stage in the filmmaking process, with many changes happening to the script since.
The audition tape features on Marvel’s ‘Phase Two’ collection, which also includes all the studios films between Iron Man 3 and Ant-Man, as well as bonus material.
