From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Hollywood star spoke to InStyle about her career amid speculation that she has stepped back from the big screen.
"I don't miss performing," she said. "I've done so much, I feel fulfilled with the adventures I've sought out in my life.
"The way I look at it is that I've given more than half of my life to the public," she added. "I feel it's OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganise."
The 46-year-old made her debut in 1994 when she starred as Tina Carlyle in The Mask opposite Jim Carrey, for which she received rave reviews.
Before then she had worked as a model since the age of 16, and starred in campaigns for Calvin Klein and Levi's.
Her latest role was as Miss Hannigan in a contemporary adaptation of the 1977 Broadway musical Annie.
However, Diaz said she is more interested in the "landscape of wellness".
"But whatever I do, it has to be something I'm passionate about – something that just feels effortless."
