From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ed Sheeran isn’t content with just being a multi-award winning troubadour - the 24-year-old is set to become a movie actor, making an appearance in the upcoming sequel to Bridget Jones.

The singer-songwriter shared a selfie from the film set, featuring Renee Zellweger as the iconic titular character, on Instagram.

He wrote alongside the snap: “Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie. Loved it, you're gonna love it too.”

Sheeran may not have starred in a feature length film before, but the singer is no stranger to acting, having appeared as Sir Cormac in US drama The Bastard Executioner.

The upcoming film, titled Bridget Jones’s Baby, started shooting in London just last month, and features Colin Firth reprising his role as Mark Darcey.

Hugh Grant, meanwhile, will not be returning for the sequel. The film will be based on the columns author Helen Fielding wrote for The Independent between 2005 and 2006.
