At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The footage sees May rocking out to the eponymous song’s guitar solo, while Gwilym Lee (who plays May in the film) watches on.
Freddie Mercury actor Rami Malek also makes a brief appearance, watching the performance from behind a sound desk.
Posting alongside the clip on Instagram, May wrote: “When the Bohemian Rhapsody team were shooting this scene, I happened to be around, so Gwil invited me to have a go!
“How did I do, folks? Well, obviously not quite as good as Gwil! He’s a trained artist! We had too much fun!”
Following Bohemian Rhapsody’s win at the Golden Globe for best motion picture drama, May criticised those who gave the film negative reviews.
“The mistake that critics made was reviewing the trailer instead of reviewing the film,” he said. “They jumped to conclusions. Once people stake their claim, it’s hard for them to withdraw.”
The film (which holds a 62 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score) beat critical darlings A Star is Born and BlacKkKlansman to win the award, while lead actor Rami Malek took home best actor.
Malek thanked May and the other members of Queen for their support while taking on the role of Mercury. “To you Brian May, to you Roger Taylor for ensuring that authenticity and inclusively exists in the music and in the world and all of us,” he said.
“Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you, gorgeous.”
Notably, during the ceremony, none of the cast or crew mentioned director Bryan Singer while accepting awards. The filmmaker – who was fired midway through production – later took to social media to react to the win.
