Robert Downey Jr has addressed rumours he might return as Iron Man in new Marvel film Black Widow.
The next Marvel Cinematic Universe release is set before the events of Avengers: Endgame, which seemingly marked the actor’s final outing as Tony Stark.
But reports state that the actor could show up in a cameo role opposite Scarlet Johansson’s lead character.
When asked about a possible appearance by Entertainment Tonight, Downey Jr – who stars in panned new film Dolittle – played it cool.
He said: “Right. Great. I mean, it would be nice if they notified me. Forewarned is forearmed. They can do anything now. This could be a deep fake interview for all we know.”
It was recently revealed by Jeff Goldblum that Downey Jr has provided voice work for an animated version of Iron Man in new Disney+ series What If..?
Also starring in Black Widow is Rachel Weisz, who plays Melina Vostokoff, and Stranger Things actor David Harbour, who plays a character named Red Guardian.
Florence Pugh, who has been Oscar-nominated for her role in Little Women, plays Black Widow’s sister Yelena Belova.
The film will be released in cinemas on 1 May.
