The actor was appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new film The Way Back when conversation steered to how much Affleck cares about his son, who is obsessed with Star Wars.
Affleck had just wrapped filming new Ridley Scott film The Last Duel alongside Driver when he returned home to Los Angeles just in time for his surprise party.
The presents he’d ordered, though, hadn’t arrived and he showed up empty-handed.
“It was like this sinking, awful feeling,” he admitted.
But, luckily, Driver had saved the day. Affleck discovered that, upon learning it was going to be his son’s birthday, the Kylo Ren actor had called the actor’s assistant, got his address “and sent some presents and signed a card and picture.”
“I said, ‘Son, my presents didn’t get here on time. But I did get a present from somebody who really wanted it make sure you had a gift.
Affleck then gave his son the gifts and played a birthday video Driver had filmed in character as the Star Wars character.
“It was an incredibly moving and powerful moment. Adam made me a hero to my kid – how do you repay that?”
He added: “It meant the f***ing world to me.”
