David Beckham has been approached to appear in the forthcoming Pink Panther movie.
The England midfielder would play a cameo role as a footballer in the film, which follows a detective trying to solve the murder of a famous soccer coach and the theft of the Pink Panther diamond. The Hollywood Reporter newspaper said Beckham had to resolve a scheduling clash before committing to the film.
The MGM production would be the first feature film in which the Real Madrid player would appear. He would be alongside Steve Martin and Beyoncé Knowles.
Archive footage of Beckham on the field was used in the British production Bend It Like Beckham.
The new film, which is due to go into production in May and is scheduled for a July 2005 release, is being directed by Shawn Levy. Also in the movie are Kevin Kline and Jean Reno.
A spokeswoman for Beckham said: "They have approached him to be in the film but he hasn't made a decision."
