From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Specifically, what could very well prove to be one of our biggest Academy Award contenders: Beautiful Boy, with a trailer newly released and looking particularly heart-wrenching to boot.
With Timothée Chalamet making history earlier this year by becoming the youngest Best Actor nominee at the Oscars in 80 years, he returns now in the English-language debut of Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen, starring across from Steve Carell, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 for Foxcatcher.
From what the footage we've seen so far suggests, they both could very well be looking at their second Oscar nominations next year.
Beautiful Boy is based on the memoirs of Nic Sheff (Chalamet), who became addicted to methamphetamine as a teenager, and of his father David Sheff (Steve Carell), examining how deeply drug addiction can tear into the family unit. Amy Ryan and Maura Tierney also star.
Produced by Amazon Studios, Beautiful Boy will hit UK cinemas 18 January.
