From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If you haven’t seen Batman v Superman and want to go in with the plot unspoilt get out of here right now! Of course, if you actually clicked on a link about cliffhangers, one would presume you've seen the film.
So, let’s discuss that ending, shall we? After surviving a nuclear bomb, Superman survives, yet after being impaled through the chest by Doomsday, he dies. (Apparently the Kryptonian spear had weakened his body enough for Doomsday to kill him while the sun helped him recover from the bomb.)
The last shot features the Man of Steel’s coffin covered in dirt. However, moments before the credits role, the dirt begins to lift up. Is he being lifted into space by a tractor beam? Probably not. We presume it's supposed to show he is alive.
Of course, we all knew he’d be back anyway because DC and Warner Bros. had already announced their Justice League film. Still, if you needed more confirmation Superman will be back on our screens next year, we’ve got you covered.
During WB’s presentation at Cinema Con in Las Vegas, the audience was treated to a guest appearance from Zack Snyder via a video link. He was on the set of Justice League, and with him were Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and *drum roll please* Henry Cavil.
“Wow”, I hear you say. “Isn’t his character supposed to be dead?” Yeah, we covered that already. He’s back, no one is surprised, and Batman v Superman’s ending remains ridiculous.
You may have noticed Ben Affleck’s name was not mentioned above. Well, he was actually in Las Vegas, alongside Amy Adams, both of whom will appear in Justice League (Adams played Lois Lane in Man of Steel and BvS).
Meanwhile, it was also confirmed there’s a solo Batfleck film on the way. The Caped Crusader will next appear in Suicide Squad, the second trailer for which appeared online just days ago.
