Batman director Matt Reeves has offered fans the first look at actor Robert Pattinson in the new Batsuit.

The filmmaker shared a screen test of Pattinson in the new suit, which includes a belt apparently made from parts of the gun used to kill Bruce Wayne’s parents.

He also revealed that the score for the film is by US composer Michael Giacchino, whose previous credits include Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ratatouille and Jojo Rabbit.

Pattinson follows actors including Christian Bale and Ben Affleck by taking on the role of the Caped Crusader. He will be joined by Zoe Kravtiz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.

In September last year, Bale urged Pattinson not to “listen to the naysayers” and to “make [the role] his own”.

“Think about it,” he said. “Everybody protested when Heath [Ledger] was cast as the Joker. Look what an absolutely brilliant performance he gave. Don’t listen to those guys, do his own thing. He’s a fascinating actor and a great choice.”

Pattinson previously revealed he was “furious” when rumours first emerged that he was being cast as Batman.

The British actor was prematurely announced as the next Batman in the middle of May, two weeks before the official confirmation.

“When that thing leaked, I was f***ing furious,” Pattinson told Variety. “Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”

He continued: “It was terrifying. I was like, ‘Oh f***. Does that screw me because they are so intent on secrecy?’”

“It might be craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff,” he said.

Pattinson officially found out he had been cast as the next Bruce Wayne on his first day on the set of Tenet, the spy thriller from The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.

Fans still have some time to wait to see the full feature film, which is scheduled for release on 25 June 2021.
