Expectations have been set high when it comes to Avengers: Endgame and its box office performance.

According to Variety, the film is expected to break a number of box office records during its opening weekend, on both a domestic and international level. In the US, the film is expected to earn between $250m and $268m in the first three days of release.

The biggest domestic debut of all time is last year’s Infinity War, the precursor to Endgame, which earned $257.7m during that period, making it fairly likely that Endgame will take the top spot. Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently sits in second place with $248m and The Last Jedi sits in third with $220m. Only six films have earned more than $200m in their opening weekends.

Infinity War also currently boasts the best global launch with $640m, although it didn’t beat the international record as the film opened in China two weeks after most other territories. Fate of the Furious currently holds the record for the best international opening weekend with $443m.

Endgame, however, will open globally at the same time, with current predictions suggesting it could earn more than $800m in total on opening weekend, which would also put it in a good position to beat Fate of the Furious for the international record.

Another record the film will likely beat is the highest-single day gross, which is currently held by The Force Awakens, which earned $119m on its opening day.
