The news came on Wednesday as The Hollywood Reporter announced that The Stone Quarry, a production company co-founded by Snyder, has signed a first-look deal with Netflix.
Netflix was the distributor of Snyder’s Army of the Dead, which was released on 21 May.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder is now developing a sequel with one of the first film’s co-writers, Shay Hatten.
“My goal and hope are to bring as much quality content as I can and do it on a giant scale,” Snyder told the publication. “Big projects and big movies.”
The filmmaker is expected to start working on the sequel after he wraps up Rebel Moon, a sci-fi adventure film he’s also directing for Netflix.
Army of the Dead, starring Dave Bautista and Ella Purnell, follows a group of people attempting a heist in Las Vegas amid a zombie apocalypse.
It received mixed to positive reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter noting: “There’s no shortage of excitement, suspense, jokey camaraderie, sorrowful losses, satisfying comeuppances, twists and turns to fill the generous running time, with plenty of variation in the bloody encounters.
“... The energy and inventiveness on display at all levels here – not to mention the sly humour — make Army of the Dead an ass-kicking epic franchise debut.”
