Armie Hammer ‘genuinely sorry’ for comments made in provocative ‘stolen’ video

A Cayman Islands beauty pageant said they were ‘very disturbed’ by the video

Armie Hammer has said he is “genuinely sorry” for referring to a lingerie-clad woman in a “stolen” Instagram video as “Miss Cayman”.

The Call Me by Your Name actor, who has been embroiled in a social media scandal in recent weeks, could be seen in the video with an unidentified woman positioned on all-fours on a bed.

The video, which was originally posted to Hammer’s private Instagram account, featured the actor explaining to the camera that he had to travel to the Cayman Islands, “which sucks”.

He then added: “Except there are a few silver linings. Like f***ing Miss Cayman again while I’m down there.”

While the face of the woman Hammer refers to was obscured in the video, the Miss Cayman Islands Universe beauty pageant were quick to distance themselves from the video.

“The Committee is very disturbed by the video and would like to confirm that the woman is not the reigning Miss Cayman Islands and has no affiliation to the Miss Cayman Islands Universe pageant,” a pageant spokesperson said in a statement.

Hammer subsequently released his own audio statement to the local newspaper The Cayman Compass, where he apologised for referring to the woman as “Miss Cayman”.

“I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman,” Hammer said. “I am genuinely sorry for any confusion my foolish attempt at humour may have caused. My deep sympathies to Miss Cayman, who I don’t know, and to the entire organisation, as I had no intentions of implying she was actually Miss Cayman.”

Last week (14 January), Hammer said in a statement that he would not respond to “bulls*** claims”, after a number of alleged private messages between Hammer and unidentified women were leaked online. He did, however, confirm that he had departed the cast of a forthcoming romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez.

“In light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” Hammer said.
