Armie Hammer is set to play the lead role in Uwe Bollā€™s upcoming thriller The Dark Knight.

Despite sharing a title, the movie is unrelated to Christopher Nolanā€™s 2008 Batman film that starred Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.

However, the plot does appear to share some similarities with the superhero film.

According to Variety, Hammer will play a character named Sanders who takes justice into his own hands when he starts hunting down local criminals. His crusade makes him a public hero and a social media sensation, but a police chief sees him as a menace to society and sets out to take him down.

The 38-year-oldā€™s career was derailed several years ago by a series of sexual accusations, and earlier this month he blamed Covid and kink-shaming for the fallout.

In 2021, direct messages allegedly sent from Hammer were made public detailing graphic sexual desires and cannibalistic fetishism.

Several women later accused the actor of sexual assault and he was subsequently accused of rape and abuse by ex-girlfriend Effie Angelova. Hammer has consistently denied any criminal wrongdoing and said that all of his relationships with women were consensual.

In May 2023, the LA County District Attorneyā€™s Office announced it would not file sexual assault charges, citing ā€œinsufficient evidenceā€ and the ā€œcomplexity of the relationshipā€. He has since shared his financial struggles, admitting he sold his truck because he couldnā€™t afford the petrol.

ā€œThe world seemed like it was falling apart, and people were just deeply unhappy with their own lives,ā€ Hammer said on the Your Momā€™s House podcast about the news breaking during the Covid lockdown.

ā€œAnd then this salacious story comes around where this actor wants to murder and eat people. And all of a sudden, everyoneā€™s like, ā€˜Oh, this is so much more fun to focus on than the fact that I canā€™t leave my living room.ā€™ā€

Speaking about this sexual preferences, Hammer suggested that kink-shaming could have been at play in the backlash he received about his alleged sexual fantasies.

ā€œIf anyone took anyoneā€™s bedroom conversations specifically if people were having a little bit of sexy time, and they took the s*** that they said, even if it was completely vanilla, and you read that somewhere else out of context, everyoneā€™s going to go, ā€˜You guys are f***ing disgustingā€™.ā€ he said.

The actor said that the volume of private messages made public made him feel like he was ā€œleft standing there naked in front of the world with all of your proclivities or kinks being judged by the worldā€.

Describing his relationship to women, he said: ā€œPeople were my bags of dope with skin on it.ā€

He hinted that he understood why he would be disliked as he added: ā€œI would scoop these girls up, take them on a whirlwind month and a half... then Iā€™m going bounce and go do it with someone else.ā€

Going further to expand on his sexual inclinations, he said: ā€œI like the idea that you are so completely mine. Yeah. I can do whatever I want, and you love it because you know youā€™re mine.ā€

Hammer has since embraced the ā€œcannibalā€ label.

ā€œThis possession-kinda thing,ā€ he continued, ā€œthatā€™s just fun to talk about. And by the way, especially if youā€™re drunk or stoned or high at night and youā€™re texting. While youā€™re saying it, youā€™re chuckling to yourself, like, ā€˜Iā€™m going to f***ing cut your toe off and keep it in my pocket so I got a piece of you everywhere I go.ā€™ā€
